McCauley Ties for Big Ten Individual Title; Gophers Are 9th as a Team
April 22, 2024
FINDLAY, Ohio -- Dallas Baptist sophomore Ann Parmerter shot a 1-over-par 73 at Findlay Country Club on Wednesday, which put her in a four-way tie for first place after the opening round of the NCAA Women's Division II Championships. Three of her teammates also ended the day in the top 15 individually, as the Lady Patriots combined for a first-day total of 299 and established a 10-shot lead in the team competition.
Parmerter birdied the 492-yard, par-5 first hole, but she bogeyed three of five holes later on the front nine, before making another birdie at the 347-yard, par-4 ninth. The two-time Texas state high school champion from Austin played the back nine in even par, making two birdies and two bogeys in difficult scoring conditions. The temperature was in the 80's, but the wind was gusting up to 25 miles per hour.
Maria Regina Gonzalez of St. Mary's (Texas), Pilar Echeverria of Indianapolis and Mary Weinstein also shot 73's.
Two other Dallas Baptist players, Addison Mitchell and Brinn Fariss posted 75's and are tied for eighth, and another Lady Patriot, Hanna Harrison, turned in a 76 and is part of a six-way tie for 13th.
Barry is second in the team standings with a 309, but then things get congested. Indianapolis is third at 310; Henderson State is fourth at 311, and West Texas A&Mis tied with St. Mary's fifth at 312.
Augustana, the perennial Norhtern Sun Intercollegiate Conference champ, is tied for seventh in the 12-team field at 318.
Two juniors -- Sierra Langlie (Andover) and Emily Israelson (Staples-Motley) -- led the way for the Vikings with 78's. They are tied for 22nd.
