BOLD Girls Erase 14-Shot Deficit to Win Class A; Wersal Goes Wire to Wire

  BECKER, Minn. – Facing a 14-shot deficit entering the final round of the 2017 Minnesota State Girls High School Class A Championship Wednesday, the BOLD girls golf team posted a team score of 336 to win the team championship by four shots at Pebble Creek Golf Club.

It’s the fourth appearance at the tournament for the Warriors and first state championship in the program’s history. BOLD was led by freshman Ashley Trongard who fired an 84 to open the tournament Tuesday and capped it off by bettering her score by three shots to finish tied for sixth at 165.

Senior Madison VanderHagen carded a final-round 84 to finish tied for 13th, while teammate Whitney Trongard finished tied for 17th at 176. A final round score of 85 from Makayla Snow gave BOLD four golfers who finished inside the top-25 as Snow placed tied for 21st.

Springfield senior Callie Wersal posted an opening round 74 Tuesday and didn’t let up on the final day, shooting 81 to finish five shots better than Heidi Guttormson and Sophie Gray at 155.
