MINNEAPOLIS – Carding the first round of 69 of her collegiate career Monday, University of Minnesota golfer Heather Ciskowski sits tied atop the leaderboard after 36 holes of the 2016 Minnesota Invitational at the Minikahda Club.

The Gophers carded a team score of 306 to begin the championship Monday before shooting 294 collectively and will begin Tuesday’s final round in ninth place at 600, only 10 shots off the lead.

The University of Texas paced the field in the team competition Monday, finishing 36 holes at 590 and will take a one-shot advantage over the University of Louisville and Purdue University.

Ciskowski began the championship by shooting 2-over par 74 during the morning session Monday before starting her second round with a birdie on the opening hole.

The junior drew even for the round with a bogey at the second but answered with a pair of birdies at the third and fourth to move to even par for the tournament.

Ciskowski, Barrington, Ill., would stumble slightly over the next six holes as she carded three bogeys but would finish her round with four birdies over the next five holes to shoot 3-under par 69 during the second round Monday to earn a share of the lead with 18 holes to play.

Gopher sophomore Muyu Wu opened the championship by shooting 5-over par 77, but rebounded by carding a 1-over par 73 during the second round to finish 36 holes of play tied for 22nd at 150.

Ciskowski, who fired the first round of 69 in her career during the second round of the Minnesota Women’s State Amateur last month, will begin the final round tied with Wisconsin’s Brooke Farrell, Kentucky’s Anna Hack and Longhorn Greta Voelker.

The 2016 Minnesota Invitational concludes Tuesday as the final round begins at 8 a.m. with a shotgun start at the Minikahda Club.
