Herdine and Savini Medal While 14 Others Advance to MGA Amateur Championship

  FOREST LAKE, Minn. – Shooting rounds of 1-under par 70 Friday at Tanners Brook Golf Club, Jacob Herdine and Max Savini shared medalist honors as well as a spot in the 112th Minnesota Golf Association Amateur Championship.

In one of the largest qualifying fields, 75 players competed for 16 spots to this year’s tournament, which will be held July 20-22 at Northland Country Club in Duluth, Minn.

Herdine, Rush Creek Golf Club, and Savini, Rum River Hills Golf Club, will be joined by Chris Conklin, Hazeltine National Golf Club, and Daniel Chi, Rush Creek Golf Club, who both fired rounds of even par 71 to qualify, while Shell Wheeler, North Oaks Golf Club, qualified shooting 1-over par 73.

Andrew Layton (Keller Golf Club), Eric Nystedt (Hiawatha Golf Club), Derek Farrell (Ridgeview Country Club) and Taylor Sundbom (Ridgeview Country Club) earned spots to this year’s tournament shooting 2-over par 73, as well as Tyler Hill (Virginia Municipal Golf Course), Dan Moline (Ridgeview Country Club), Gary Lawson (Tanners Brook Golf Club) and Will Holmgren (Baker National Golf Club).

Claiming the final three qualifying spots were Matt Swanson, Purple Hawk Country Club, Max Redetzke, Brackett’s Crossing Country Club, and Sam Steinwand, Bunker Hills Golf Club, who each carded rounds of 3-over par 74.

Mason Fiddle, Tanners Brook Golf Club, Riley Johnson, Links at Northfork, and Travis Mauer, Oak Marsh Golf Club, finished as first, second and third alternates, respectively.
