JORDAN, Minn. – Looking to return to the top of Class AA for the first time since 2019, the Holy Family Catholic School boys golf team carded a team tally of 295 Tuesday at Ridges at Sand Creek to open the Minnesota State High School League Championship with a five-stroke lead.

Led by brothers P.J. and Mick Herron, who carded rounds of 72 and 73, respectively, the Fire finished the opening round on top of the leaderboard and will begin Wednesday’s final round in front of Totino-Grace.

Also contributing for Holy Family on Day One was freshman Ryder Carlson, who fired a 2-over 74 to finish the first 18 holes of play tied for 12th, and by sophomore Jacob Egan, who carded a 76 to sit tied for 21st with teammates Zac Beddor and Tully Super.

Kimball Area High School senior Luke Ashbrook posted one of just two scores below par on Tuesday’s first round, carding a 2-under 70 to take a one-shot advantage over Blake School’s Christopher Zhao to Wednesday’s final round.

Totino-Grace junior Andrew Ramos sits just two shots back of the lead following his round of even par 72 Wednesday, tied for third with Pequot Lakes senior Anthony Armstrong, Staples-Motley sophomore Carter White and Herron.

Cloquet High School will begin the final round in third place, 15 shots off the lead, followed by the 2016 and 2017 team champs from Blake (218).
