Klasse and Anderson Out After First Round of Match Play at U.S. Senior Women's Amateur

  WELLESLEY, Mass. – Minnesotans Leigh Klasse and Lynn Anderson both dropped their respective matches Monday and were eliminated during the Round of 64 at the 2016 U.S. Senior Women’s Amateur Championship at Wellesley Country Club.

Klasse, St. Anthony, Minn., faced California’s Stacey Camara Monday and it was Klasse who took the early lead following a double-bogey by Camara at the fourth.

Winning the fifth and sixth holes with a pair of pars, Camara took her first lead of the match before Klasse came marching back to win the seventh with a par and the eighth with a birdie.

Camara won both the 12th and 13th to take her second lead of the match before Klasse evened it at the 14th. The two traded the 15th and 16th before Camara rolled in her birdie on the final hole to defeat Klasse, 1-up.

Anderson, Edina, Minn., ran into trouble early Monday as she bogeyed four of the first five holes and faced a 3-down deficit before winning the sixth with a birdie to pull within two of Dana Harrity.

It would be all the closer Anderson would get as Harrity increased her lead by winning the eighth to go 3-up before extending it by winning the 10th. Making par at the par-3 15th, Harrity closed out the match to defeat Anderson, 5 and 3.
