Kruger; BGMR Lead After First Round of A Girls State Tournament in Becker

  BECKER, Minn. – The 2013 Minnesota State High School Class A Girls Golf Tournament got underway Tuesday at Pebble Creek Golf Club with Badger-Greenbush-Middle River jumping out to a 7-stroke lead in team competition.

The Gators were led by junior Tierra Novacek who shot an opening round 86, and by junior Andrea Burkel who finished her first round with 17-over par 89.

Legacy Christian Academy of Andover, Minn., sits seven shots behind BGMR heading into Wednesday’s final round. Legacy Christian Academy finished fourth in team competition in last year’s tournament.

Senior Hannah Kruger, Russell Tyler Ruthton, leads individual competition, shooting an 8-over par 80 during Tuesday’s opening round. Kruger will take a 3-stroke lead over junior Christine Piwnica of Southwest Christian School who carded an 11-over par 83 Tuesday.

Caitlin Richmond, Braham, and Kiera Smith, Heritage Christian Academy, are tied for third after they both finished at 13-over par 85.
