JORDAN, Minn. – While it wasn’t the 27-stroke lead the Lake City High School girls golf team held following the first round at the 2022 Minnesota State High School League Class AA Championship, the Tigers posted a team score of 322 Tuesday at Ridges at Sand Creek to open the tournament with a seven-shot advantage.

Lake City will have to fend off Pequot Lakes High School during Wednesday’s final round, in hopes of claiming the third state team title in school history.

On Tuesday, the Tigers were led by junior Jordana Windhorst-Knudsen, who tallied a 3-over 75 to finish the opening round tied for second with Pequot Lakes junior Annie Neva and Providence Academy senior Grace Petzold.

Lake City also got help from senior Emma Berge and junior Ella Matzke, both of whom posted a 10-over 82 to sit tied for 19th following the first round of play.

Despite a rain-shortened final round last season, the Tigers earned a 39-stroke victory over Fergus Falls for a second straight team title.

Park Rapids senior Madysen Maninga finished the opening round on top of the leaderboard Tuesday, firing a 2-over 74 to take a one-stroke lead.

Maninga’s teammate Anna Eckmann carded a 4-over 76, and she will begin Wednesday’s final round tied for sixth with Pequot Lakes’ Morgan Krieger.

The final round of the 2023 MSHSL Girls’ Class AA Championship is scheduled to begin at 7:30 a.m. at Ridges at Sand Creek.
