McCullough and Herrick Qualify for Match Play at U.S. Women's Mid-Am in Pennsylvania

  EERIE, Pa. – Minnesotan Paige McCullough opened the 2016 U.S. Women’s Mid-Amateur Championship at The Kahkwa Club shooting 5-over par 77 Saturday, but came back with a 1-over par 73 during the second round Sunday to finish stroke play tied for sixth to advance to the match play portion of the tournament Monday.

McCullough will be joined in the Round of 64 by Olivia Herrick, who is making her fourth consecutive appearance at the event, qualifying for match play each year.

Carding seven consecutive pars Sunday, McCullough sank back-to-back birdies at the eighth and ninth holes to turn at 3-over for the championship. She would hang on despite three bogeys over the final nine holes Sunday to finish at 6-over par 150 and into the first round of match play.

Herrick, Roseville, Minn., also began the championship by carding a 5-over par 77 during the opening round before a shaky start to the second round Sunday, carding four bogeys over the opening nine to fall back to 9-over.

Regaining her footing beginning on the back nine, Herrick would roll in eight pars and took advantage of her birdie look at the par-5 14th to finish the day at 3-over par 75 and will face Maryland’s Andrea Kraus during the Round of 64 Monday.

McCullough, Minneapolis, Minn., is seeded seventh in match play and will square off against 58th-ranked Deborah Munoz, of Boca Raton, Fla., Monday in the Round of 64.
