EDINA, Minn. (June 11, 2020) – On June 3, Governor Tim Walz issued executive order 20-74 modifying expanded exemptions for outdoor recreational activities and facilities, and allowing for the gradual reopening of certain non-critical businesses.

Effective June 10, golf courses and clubs may provide indoor and outdoor food and beverage service, provided they adhere to the following requirements:

  • Indoor occupancy must not exceed 50 percent of normal capacity, with a maximum of 250 in a single self-contained space;
  • Occupancy of an outdoor space is limited to the number for whom physical distancing of six feet can be maintained between tables, not to exceed 250 people;
  • There are certain seating restrictions: for guidance on the safe reopening of bars and restaurants, click here.
In addition, golf courses and clubs may offer gathering space for outings, banquets, and weddings, provided they adhere to the following requirements:
  • Ensure a minimum of six feet of physical distancing;
  • Indoor occupancy must not exceed 50 percent of normal capacity, with a maximum of 250 in a single self-contained space;
  • Outdoor gatherings must not exceed 250 individuals.
The Outdoor Recreation Guidelines, which were updated June 10 and can be found here, continue to specify the following requirements for recreational golf and competitive events:
  • Do not touch the flagstick;
  • Avoid touching other golfers' equipment;
  • Spectators are prohibited;
  • Virtual (rather than in-person) awards ceremonies;
  • No outdoor gatherings of more than 25 people.
New to the guidelines is allowing 2-person golf cart use if there is a barrier in place between users (and they do not switch positions).

Minnesota’s allied golf associations continue to reach out to the governor’s team to expand guidelines relative to shotgun starts, 2-person cart use, and allowing spectators at competitive events.
