Pequot Lakes Girls Upset Lake City in Class AA; Petzold Wins by Three

  JORDAN, Minn. – Posting a team tally of 322 Wednesday at Ridges at Sand Creek, Pequot Lakes High School erased a seven-stroke deficit to win the 2023 Minnesota State High School League Girls’ Class AA Championship.

The Patriots edged two-time Class AA team champions Lake City High School to claim the third team title in school history.

Pequot Lakes was led by senior Morgan Krieger, who followed her opening-round 76 with a 3-over 75 Wednesday to place third individually.

Sophomore Genevieve Birkeland posted a final-round 78 Wednesday to finish tied for 11th with teammate Annie Neva.

Providence Academy senior Grace Petzold closed out her high school career with the championship’s only score below par this week, a 2-under 70 to earn medalist honors by three strokes over Hawley High School Sophie Cook.
