Proshek and Witty Shoot 67 at Edina Country Club to Share MGA Four-Ball Lead With DuToits

  EDINA, Minn. – Carding a round of 5-under par 67 Monday at Edina Country Club, the team of Nathan Proshek and Eric Witty opened the 55th Minnesota Golf Association Amateur Four-Ball Championship tied for the lead along with the team of Jon and Michael DuToit.

Proshek and Witty, both of New Prague Golf Club, started with three birdies over the first five holes to quickly move to 3-under par for the day before taking back-to-back bogeys at the sixth and seventh.

The two rebounded by sinking birdies at the eighth and ninth holes to turn at 3-under. Carding their third consecutive birdie at the par-5 10th, Proshek and Witty dropped a shot with a bogey at the 11th. They would card two more birdies over the final six holes to finish the first 18 holes at 5-under par 67.

The DuToits, both from Chaska Town Course, took seven consecutive pars to open the championship Monday before rolling a pair of birdies to close out the front nine at 2-under.

Following a bogey at the 10th, the duo carded three consecutive birdies to move to 4-under par before sinking one final birdie on the final hole to finish the opening day at 67.

The team of Eric Deutsch and Scott Gustafson fired a round of 4-under par 68 Monday to finish the first round alone in third place, while three teams are currently tied for fourth at 69.

The top 14 teams from Monday’s round and the top 22 teams from Tuesday’s round will advance to the final round Wednesday.

The 55th MGA Amateur Four-Ball Championship continues Tuesday with tee times beginning at 8 a.m. at Edina Country Club.
