Totino-Grace Claims Class AA Team Title; Staples-Motley's White Earns Individual Honors

  JORDAN, Minn. – Entering the final round of the 2023 Minnesota State High School League Boys’ Class AA Championship facing a four-stroke deficit, Totino-Grace High School posted a team score of 299 for a second consecutive day to earn a four-stroke victory at Ridges at Sand Creek.

The Eagles, who were ranked as the No. 2 team in the state across all three classes for a large portion of the season by the Minnesota Golf Association, got help from junior Payton Savageau, who followed his opening-round 73 Tuesday with a 2-over 74 on the final day of competition Wednesday to place tied for second at 147.

Junior Andrew Ramos fired a 4-over 76 Wednesday to finish tied for fifth at 148 with teammate Nate Appelhof, who posted back-to-back rounds of 74 in a winning effort.

Staples-Motley Carter White carded an even par 72 for the second consecutive day to earn medalist honors at 144 for a three-stroke victory over Roseau senior Max Wilson, Cloquet senior Karson Patten and Savageau.

Holy Family Catholic, who led following the first round with a team tally of 295, carded a team score of 307 Wednesday to finish in second four shots behind Totino-Grace, 16 shots better than Cloquet High School, who placed third.
