Welle Medals, Three Others Qualify for MGA Amateur Championship

  PERHAM, Minn. – Carding a 3-under par 70 Monday at Perham Lakeside Golf Club, Ben Welle earned medalist honors and also qualified the 112th Minnesota Golf Association Amateur Championship.

A field of 18 golfers competed for four qualifying spots to this year’s tournament, which will be played July 20-22 at Northland Country Club in Duluth, Minn.

Welle, Village Green Golf Club, will be joined by Keaton Lausch, Pebble Lake Golf Club, who fired a 2-under par 71, and by Karter Smith, Ironman Golf Course, who carded a 1-over par 74.

Trent Hagenson, the Vintage at Staples, earned the final qualifying spot Monday, shooting a 2-over par 75.

Beau Hanson (Detroit Country Club Men’s 18), Ekren Miller (Bemidji Town and Country Club) and Paul Webskowski (Rush Creek Golf Club) finished as first, second and third alternates, respectively.
