NISSWA, Minn. – Bouncing back from an early bogey against defending champion Madi Hicks Wednesday at The Pines at Grand View Lodge, Sammy Youngquist defeated Hicks, 2 and 1, to claim the 22nd Minnesota Junior PGA ‘Sota Series Match Play Championship.

Youngquist faced Jordana Windhorst-Knudsen during Wednesday’s semifinal round, jumping out to the early lead by winning the first hole and cruised to the final round with a win, 6 and 5.

During the championship match, Hicks took the early lead following a bogey by Youngquist at the first. Youngquist responded by winning the third with a par.

Youngquist took her first lead of the match by winning the fourth, but Hicks bounced back with a birdie at the sixth to pull even.

Winning the seventh and eighth holes gave Youngquist a quick 2-up lead, but once again Hicks drew even with a birdie at the 10th before recording an eagle at the 13th.

Claiming back-to-back wins at the 14th and 15th, Youngquist recaptured the lead late and would close out the match over the North Dakota State University commit at the 17th for the win, 2 and 1.

Youngquist, who will attend Minnesota State University-Mankato this fall, collected her second win of the season after earning a share of medalist honors at the Twin Cities Junior Championship at Victory Links Golf Course.
