NISSWA, Minn. – Brainerd High School golfer Dawson Ringler carded six birdies during the quarterfinal round of the 2022 Minnesota Junior PGA ‘Sota Series Match Play Championship at The Pines at Grand View Lodge.

Unfortunately, Edina’s Torger Ohe only needed two birdies to defeat Ringer to reach the semifinal round Wednesday.

Ohe played 17 holes of bogey-free golf, carding one birdie on each side, to notch his fourth win of the week and will face Arthur Ylitalo when the tournament resumes Wednesday.

Ranked No. 25 to start the week, Ohe cruised to victory, 5 and 4, over Brady Schwinghammer to open the championship Monday. Ohe then edged Jack Hanson during Monday’s afternoon session to reach the Round of 16.

Ohe would birdie the first playoff hole during his match against Tucker D’Allaird to advance to the final eight.

Ringler struggled early with three consecutive bogeys before Ohe took a 4-up lead with a bogey at the fifth. A pair of late birdies at the 15th and 16th by Ringler cut Ohe’s lead in half, but Ohe would close out the match at the 17th with a par.

Ylitalo, seeded 53rd this week, dispatched Logan Peroutka, 3 and 1, during the opening round Monday before slipping past Maple Grove’s Zachary Johnson, 1-up, to reach the Round of 16.

After taking Luke Maas to extra holes Tuesday, Ylitalo would card one eagle and one birdie during his quarterfinal match against Shane Sieffert to advance to the semifinals, 2-up.

Picking up his fourth win of the week late Tuesday, Maple Grove’s Kagan Kollar advanced to the semifinal round with a win over Riley McGovern, 5 and 3. Kollar began the championship with a win over Peyton Dingel, 6 and 5, before he  needed 19 holes to get past Evan Raiche.

Eliminating Dawson Melbo, 2 and 1, during the Round of 16, Kollar then cruised during his quarterfinal matchup against Riley McGovern, 5 and 3. Kollar will face Jake Fishbaugher during Wednesday’s semifinal round.

The semifinal round of the 2022 Minnesota Junior PGA Match Play Championship is scheduled to begin at 8 a.m. at The Pines at Grand View Lodge.
